Jamiat-Ulema-e-Hind (JUH) on Tuesday moved a petition before the Gujarat High Court challenging the order of Nanavati-Mehta Commission for not allowing its application to strike down the entire deposition of IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt from its record and not to allow anybody to cross-examine him. Bhatt’s deposition before Commission is presently under way and the Gujarat government is expected to resume Bhatt’s cross-examination on Wednesday. JUH has argued that Bhatt has not been summoned as a witness by the Commission and his deposition has been allowed without administering him the customary oath.

NGO says cops dropped in,police dismiss claim

In a related development, two members of NGO Anhad, which had recently demanded security cover for Bhatt, today alleged they were questioned by two policemen from Shahpur on Monday over their support for the IPS officer. They also claimed the policemen accused them of being involved in anti-state activities.

Shahpur Inspector S B Gohil, however, dismissed the charges, saying if it were so,they should have complained to senior police officers. DCP (Zone II) S M Katara said no policemen had gone to the NGO’s office.
