Karmakar was in fact arrested 15 days before the rave party but was let off on bail since he had a very small amount of drugs on him and was hence charged as a consumer.
The other peddlers are Sameer Vasantji (32), Rajesh Talvar (37), Velan Brito (19), Salil Kothari (22) and Romik Roy (25).
Among the organisers who are out on bail are — Yunus Shaikh (26), Ilyas Shaikh (26), Nikesh Davane (20), Nilroy Gonsalves (48) and Stanley Fernandes (41).
“The law will view the revelers as victims of the peddlers under Section 64(a) of the NPDS Act, which says that an addict can be exempt from charges if he agrees to go on a de-addiction programme at a certified rehabilitation centre once in his life-time,” said DCP V Nangre-Patil, who had led the ANC team during the raid.
“We will produce them in court and will inform them in advance so that they can apply for bail. However, the two revelers who were also present at the Pune and Bhayander rave parties will definitely have to go to jail,” he added.
The police had also recovered 249 grams of charas, 88 Ecstasy tablets, 8.5ml LSD and 13 grams of ganja during the raid last month.
“The drugs came from Goa and Indore where we recently nabbed a consignment of Pseudo Ephedrine, a raw material used in LSD. It was being smuggled from Bhavanimandi in MP, where it is produced for medicinal purposes,” Nagre-Patil added.
