Two suicide bombers, one dressed as a woman, detonated explosives outside a mosque in the Iranian city of Zahedan and an official said on Friday that 27 people had been killed and 300 injured, including members of the Revolutionary Guards Corps.
State media, quoting an official from the Interior Ministry, said the first bomb went off when an individual wearing womens clothes approached the entrance to Zahedans main mosque during Thursday evening prayers, killing three or four people. Minutes later,a second bomber blew himself, spreading greater carnage.
Sunni militant group Jundallah claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement on its website. It said two of its faithful and brave sons had blown themselves up amid a group of Revolutionary Guards.
Jundallah announces to the people of Baluchestan and Iran that tonight two of its sons,in an unmatched operation striking at the heart of the Guards who had gathered in a mosque in Zahedan to celebrate Guards Day,were able to send more than a hundred of the Guards to hell.
The statement identified the bombers as Abdulbaset and Mohammad Rigi, relatives of former Jundallah leader,Abdolmalek Rigi, who was executed in June by Iranian authorities.
Earlier,Yadollah Javani,a high-ranking Revolutionary Guards Corps official, was quoted as saying the attack points to the involvement of terrorist groups under the auspices of the United States,Israel and some Western countries seeking to foment sectarian strife.
