A day after the elevation of Karnataka Chief Justice P D Dinakaran to the Supreme Court hit a roadblock with the Supreme Court collegium deciding to put it on hold, a demand has been made for dropping his name altogether for appointment to the apex court.
Besides, jurists and advocates who had brought out the allegations against Justice Dinakaran are now demanding that he should be withdrawn from all judicial works as a judge.
The district collector of Tiruvallur gave an adverse report with findings going against the Karnataka Chief Justice, which was deliberated by the SC panel on October 9 and 10.
Going by the conclusions of the report, which substantiated the allegations raised by the Forum for Judicial Accountability, the Chief Justice of India, in agreement with four other judges of the collegium, is learnt to have asked Justice Dinakaran to give his reply within a week. Till then, the forum, which wrote to the CJI on September 9 demanding a probe into the allegations against him, is building up the pressure to see that he is not allowed to head the Bench as the CJ or even continue as a judge till the time the air is cleared.
The forum, in their various representations sent to the apex court, had accused Justice Dinakaran of land grabbing, an allegation he has denied.
R Vaigai, convenor of the forum, said: “His appointment to the SC should be completely ruled out. We had said a person whose integrity is under question should not be appointed as a SC judge. Inquiry is one thing but such a person must never be appointed as a top court judge.”
