Justice Kalifulla is new SC judge

Justice Fakir Muhammad Ibrahim Kalifulla was on Monday sworn in as Supreme Court judge. The new elevation has raised the strength of judges in the apex court to 26. Chief Justice of India S H Kapadia administered the oath of office to Justice Kalifulla,who had been Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court since September 18,2011.

Born on July 23,1951,Justice Kalifulla hails from Karaikudi in Sivagangai district of Tamil Nadu. He was enrolled as an advocate on August 20,1975,and was an active labour law practitioner and also appeared for various public and private sector undertakings. He became a permanent judge in the Madras High Court in 2000.
