Justice Darmar Murugesan, who was a judge of the Madras High Court, was on Wednesday sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court.
62-year-old Justice Murugesan after being elevated was transferred to Delhi in the place of Acting Chief Justice A K Sikri, who in turn has taken charge as the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna administered the oath of office to Justice Murugesan at 10 am at a function at Raj Niwas which was attended by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and other fellow judges of the Delhi High Court.
In view of the swearing-in ceremony of Justice Murugesan, the proceedings in the Delhi High Court commenced at 11.30 am, an hour later than the scheduled time.
Justice Murugesan, born on June 10, 1951, was appointed as a judge of the Madras High Court on March 2, 2000, more than 24 years after he enrolled as a member of the Bar on August 27, 1975.
He was made a permanent judge of the Madras High Court on June 13, 2001.
