  • Delhi’s Ferozeshah Kotla has always been a happy hunting ground for the new Indian captain. Here are a few instances that show why he has always been lucky at the Kotla

Kumble will make his debut at this ground as captain after playing 118 Test matches. This is a new record of captaining the side after playing the highest number of Tests. Steve Waugh captained after playing 112 matches

Kumble made a comeback to the Indian team after taking 13 for 138 for Rest of India against Delhi during the Irani Trophy in 1992-93 at this ground. He was dropped after playing just one Test match against England at Manchester in 1990

He has taken 48 wickets at an average of 15.45 in five Test matches that he has played at this ground and India has achieved victories in every match

And of course, it was here where Kumble dismissed all 10 batsmen, only the second bowler after England’s Jim Laker to achieve this feat. He took 10 wickets for 74 runs against Pakistan in February 1999
