  • The Indian women’s football team goalkeeper Namita Bag got more than just a pleasant surprise on Tuesday. She got a pair of goalkeeping gloves from Germany and Bayern Munich legend Oliver Kahn.

Khan ended his career against Mohun Bagan in Kolkata, and after watching the game, she went across to try and get an autograph from the Bayern star.

“I had never thought that he would give me his gloves. I was waiting outside the dressing room to get an autograph, but the security was tight. But I thought it was a great opportunity and tried my luck. I spoke to their manager and he told Kahn that I was the Indian women’s national custodian. That’s when he agreed to meet me and gave me his gloves,” she said.

Incidentally, she also got a jersey from Bayern Munich’s Breno, who was involved in the scuffle with Bagan’s Branco during Kahn’s farewell game.

Asked what she plans to do with the memorabilia, she said she would put them on display in her house. “Only if I’m part of the Indian team when they play in a World Cup will I use the pair of gloves. Otherwise, I will keep it in my showcase as it is the most prestigious gift that I have ever got,” she said.
