Kailash Chand murder: Counsel claims one of the accused is juvenile

The counsel for the accused in the case of murder of a Sector 22 trader, Kailash Chand, who was gunned down by a duo, has moved an application in the court stating that one of the accused of the case is a juvenile. The court has adjourned the case to February 12 for review of the application.

Sanchit Verma, one of the two accused, is said to be juvenile. He, along with Nazir Khan, were arrested by the Chandigarh Police on July 27, 2012. The third accused in the case, Rakesh Pachar, was arrested on August 1, 2012.

After Sanchit Verma and Nazir Khan were arrested by the police, it was revealed that the assailants had gone with the intention of robbery. While Sanchit waited outside the shop, Nazir and Rakesh went inside the shop with a country-made pistol and a dagger to rob the trader of his gold chain and cash.

As the trader resisted, the two opened fire at Kailash and his brother. The case was cracked within 24 hours by a Special Investigation Team constituted by the police which was headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Crime, Satbir Singh.

The two assailants were drug addicts and were in need of money to purchase smack and other drugs. Nazir Khan, a resident of Dhanas, had contacted his friend Sanchit Verma, a resident of Sector 22, Chandigarh, who was a neighbour of Kailash Chand.

Sanchit often used to visit Kailash Chand's shop to get his mobile phone recharged. He then advised Nazir to strike at Kailash Chand's shop late in the night as he used to keep the rear gate of his shop open after 11 pm.
