Two months after it was stopped by Dasuya BJP MLA Amarjit Singh Sahi, water flow in the Kali Bein was resumed on Tuesday night at the behest of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. However, farmers in the area complained that the flow fell short of their requirements.
So far, only about 50 cusecs water has been released into the Bein from the Mukerian Hydel Channel at Terkiana, where the Bein begins. Earlier, till a power plant was set up at the Beins head in Terkiana, the discharge level was 150-200 cusecs.
MLA Sahi had got the water flow blocked on January 30 on the pretext of waterlogging in the fields damaging farmers crops. But farmers said on Wednesday that uncleaned drains were to blame for waterlogging.
Former sarpanch,Daljit Singh,of Mangat village said that waterlogging was faced by nearly 10 villages last winter and the main causes for this were uncleaned drains, blocking of drains by farmers to make shortcuts to their fields and release of extra water into the Bein from Mukerian hydel.
