Kalka guy Ashish Moudgil is numero uno among marathon cross-country mobikers in the country again, after winning the top position in the Maruti Suzuki Raid De Himalaya for the second consecutive year, in the X-Treme category.
The second place went to Gurpinder Sarao, and the third to Sandeep Singh Matharu. In the Adventure Trial (car) category, Dharampal Jangra and his navigator M Harikrishan ranked first, followed by NDTV's Pratap Singh and Amit Gosain. The third place went to Mumbai-based couple Dr Murad E Lala and his wife Mamatha M Lala.
In the Adventure Trial (SUV) category, S Krishnamurti Prasad and his navigator S Krishnamurti Pardeep came up first, followed by Somdev Chanda and his navigator Nirav Mehta. The third place went to Yogesh Raheja and his navigator Umesh Raheja. Team Army won the top two positions in the X-Treme category. Numero uno in this category was Major Amrinder Brar, followed by first runners-up Captain Nishant Karki, and second runners-up Amartej Pal Singh Buwal. The event, which took off from Shimla on October 7, came to a close on October 12 at Srinagar. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah gave away the prizes to the winners.
Speaking on the occasion, Shashank Srivastava, CGM (Marketing), Maruti Suzuki said, "It is encouraging to see that the number of participants in the Maruti Suzuki Raid De Himalaya is growing every year." This edition of the prestigious Maruti Suzuki Raid-de-Himalaya was marked by upsets due to inclement weather and tough road conditions. The Raiders reached Srinagar after completing a 2,000-km rally, crossing some of the highest motorable passes in the world. A severe snowstorm at the Baralacha La pass and about three feet of snow forced about 21 cars and seven bikes to pack up and pull out of the tough, demanding event.
