Kalmadi using delaying tactics: CBI

The CBI told a trial court that sacked Commonwealth Games organising committee chief Suresh Kalmadi was adopting “delaying tactics” in proceedings going on against him in a Games scam.

The CBI on Saturday told a trial court that sacked Commonwealth Games organising committee chief Suresh Kalmadi was adopting “delaying tactics” in proceedings going on against him in a Games scam.

The agency filed a reply before special judge Talwant Singh after it was asked to respond to a plea by Kalmadi to clarify if its probe into the awarding of Time Scoring and Result contracts for the Games is complete or not. He had sought the court’s direction to the CBI to “clarify if the continuing further probe to unearth a larger conspiracy,to identify the money trail and additional facts,is over or not”.

The CBI replied: “… the application, being devoid of any merit and being nothing but a delaying tactic, may be dismissed and separation of trial may be ordered in the interest of justice so that the trial of other accused could be conducted expeditiously without any further undue and unwarranted delay.”
