Kamal Haasan releases songs of Vishwaroopam

The CD of songs from Kamal Haasan's film Vishwaroopam which had generated a furore over his decision to release it on DTH platform was launched in Madurai.

The trailer of the film was screened at the event, where Haasan joined singer Sankar Mahadevan and sang a song from the film. Badrinath, an alternatively abled sportsman was presented with the first copy of the CD.

Haasan's decision to screen the film eight hours before its release on January 11 on Direct to Home platform has not gone down well with theatre owners, who believe this new trend could dent their business if it catches on with other producers. Vishwaroopam stars Rahul Bose, Shekhar Kapur, Pooja Kumar and Andrea Jermiah and is produced and directed by Kamal Haasan.

'Regional films not bound by formula'

Anupam Kher plays a blind man in his second Malayalam film, Nayana directed by K.N. Sasidharan. After receiving rave reviews for his role in Blessy's Pranayam, the actor will be seen essaying the role of an old man who is slowly losing his eyesight. It charts an emotional journey between a young nine year old girl whom he encounters at the hospital where he too is undergoing treatment. A budding artist, the child is afflicted with colour blindness, because of which her portraits are always painted in black and white, as she is unable to decipher the colours, reveals Kher. "I meet her in the hospital. The film is a poignant story of how after the operation, the child is cured and she paints a colourful portrait. However, the character which I play, loses his sight completely and is unable to see the colourful painting." Impressed by Malayalam films, he says, "The industry does not follow a rigid formula. There is a wide variety of content, which is why I like to do regional films." Nayana releases in January 2013.
