The spotlight will fall obliquely on Nikhil Kanetkar when he plays Lee Cheol Ho in the final of the Indian International Badminton tournament at the Goregaon Sports Club on Friday. Saina Nehwal, the other Indian challenger to a crown in Mumbai having reached the final though, will be out in the full-glare of attention.
The 17-year-old top-seed struggled to put it past Korean Kim Moon Hi, prevailing 21-15, 21-18 in the semifinals, but playing her second straight tournament final after making it to the World Juniors title clash, Nehwal is expected to draw in the crowds on Friday.
Kanetkar, on the other hand is playing his third final of the season after Australia and South Africa, but on the back of a very quiet last year when he didn’t play a single international and slipped off the radar.
