Kanimozhi files papers, assets worth Rs 8.45 cr

Kanimozhi, daughter of Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who filed her nomination papers today for the biennial election to the Rajya Sabha, declared her total assets as being worth Rs 8.45 crore.

Kanimozhi’s assets include movable and immovable properties, bank deposits, a commercial building, shares in companies and gold and diamond jewellery.

The break-up of property as declared in an affidavit include fixed deposits worth Rs 6.4 crore in Indian Bank, Rs 16.52 lakh in Tamil Nadu Mercantile Bank and Rs 1.96 lakh in ICICI, a commercial building in Anna Salai worth Rs 1.61 crore, shares worth Rs 3.5 lakh in a company called Westgate Logistics, gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 3.61 lakh and a car, Toyota Camry worth Rs 18.7 lakh.

The other DMK nominee for the Rajya Sabha, Shiva, declared assets worth about Rs 75 lakh, while CPI’s national secretary D Raja, also nominated for the Rajya Sabha, made a declaration for Rs 61, 944. In the Assembly election last year, Karunanidhi had declared assets worth Rs 26.53 crore while his son, M K Stalin, declared assets worth about Rs 1 crore.

Karunanidhi’s assets include Rs 17.98 crore in bank deposits, three grounds in the city worth Rs 3 crore, Rs 97.58 lakh worth jewellery of his wife Rajathi Ammal (Kanimozhi’s mother), a house valued at Rs 3.02 crore in Rajathi Ammal’s name, Rs 20.76 lakh shares in Thamizh Kani Publications, a publishing house owned by Rajathi Ammal and managed by Kanimozhi and Rs 5.41 lakh of shares in Royal Furniture. He also owned two cars and 21 cent of land in Madakulam village in Madurai district.
