Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has written to Congress president Sonia Gandhi opposing the UPA Government’s decision to fix cut off mark of 60 per cent as the criterion for eligibility for SC/ST candidates to get post-matric scholarships. Karunanidhi’s daughter and DMK MP Kanimozhi called on the Congress president and handed over the letter on Wednesday. The matter will be taken up with the UPA leadership by the Chief Minister when he visits New Delhi on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Congress also expressed reservations over the Government’s decision. “Fixing a cut-off mark is not proper. But the Government has not taken a decision. It is still at proposal stage,” AICC media cell chairperson Veerappa Moily said at a press briefing on Wednesday. The CPI(M) had also opposed the Government’s decision earlier.
