Kankaria Carnival kicks off

The week-long Kankaria Carnival kicked off to a colourful start here on Saturday evening with Chief Minister Narendra Modi giving a call to encourage the down-trodden and deprived children to share a slice of life they may never have dreamt of otherwise.

Modi also proposed to name the flyover at Jamalpur junction after Ashok Bhatt,the former Assembly Speaker who died recently.

Modi also thanked people for planting nearly nine lakh saplings as part of a major plantation drive in the city. The CM said the lake front at Kankaria had immense potential as an affordable source of entertainment for the poor.

He said this spot would become a source of self-experiencing aspects of daily public life when Kids City is dedidated to people.

Modi also praised local people for maintaining cleanliness on the lake front and launched Shri Shri Santram water treatment plant for east and south zones. City mayor Asit Vora said the lake front had attracted 90 lakh visitors so far,which was a record.
