Chamara Kapugedera scored a composed 67 and shared an unbeaten 95-run partnership with Thilan Samaraweera on Saturday to guide Sri Lanka to a six-wicket win in the second limited-over match against Pakistan. The victory gave the host team a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
Chasing a modest 169 to win, Sri Lanka looked shaky at 74/4 when the Kapugedera and Samaraweera paired to take their side home without further damage. Kapugedara faced 97 deliveries for his runs, hitting eight fours and a six while Samaraweera faced 69 balls for his 38, hitting two boundaries.
Earlier Sri Lanka’s left-arm seamer Thilan Thushara grabbed three wickets as Pakistan was bowled out for 168 in their innings. After the seamers had done the early damage, the off-spin of Muttiah Muralitharan further tightened the grip on the tourists, accounting for Younis (23) and Afridi (7). The tourists were spared a more embarrassing total by an impressive 40-run final-wicket partnership between Aamer and Saeed Ajmal.
