Congress MP Dr Karan Singh has added to the raging controversy over opening of a Central university in Jammu and Kashmir by suggesting that the varsity be opened at Bhaderwah, home town of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. Singh said Bhaderwah was most suited for the purpose, as the construction of Bhaderwah-Chamba road would open new “vistas of development” in Doda district. Singh asked the Centre to consider the proposal of setting up of two Central universities in the state. “If this is difficult, the UPA government should set up the proposed Indian Institute of Management in Kashmir and a Central university in Jammu region,” he said. For over a month now, students in Jammu have been boycotting classes seeking the varsity be opened at Samba. Both the BJP and Panther’s Party have voiced their opposition to the setting up of a Central university in Kashmir.
Send your grievances online to Omar
That Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is tech-savvy is a known fact. Now, he is taking a note of complaints filed online. For this purpose he has launched a grievance cell at the civil secretariat in Srinagar that will remain connected to 120 Community Information Centres at the block-level where people can register their complaints from 9.30 am to 5 pm. The grievance cell, which had been on trial run for the past three months, will be an effective mechanism to entertain the complaints of general public and people will get information about the status of their complaint, progress and the action taken, the Chief Minister said, adding that he will personally audit the working of the cell on a regular basis.
