Zilla Parishad has shifted Thursday’s holiday to Friday but many schools decide to remain closed today owing to bad weather
Though the Zilla Parishad has issued a circular stating that the ‘Kartiki Ekadhashi’ holiday on Thursday has been shifted to Friday, close to half dozen schools in the city would remain shut on Thursday — some owing to bad weather conditions. “We have released a circular today stating that the holiday for Kartiki Ekadashi has been shifted from Thursday to Friday,” confirmed ZP education officer Prakash Parab.
Binita Punekar, principal of Army Public School said, “Around 15 trees on the school premises came down in the incessant rains. So we have declared a holiday on Thursday to clear the trees and carry out some maintenance work in the school premises.”
According to a notice put up on the web portal of The Bishop’s Education Society, The Bishop’s School, Camp, and The Bishop’s Co-Ed Schools, Kalyaninagar and Undri, will remain shut on Thursday. A decision about Friday will be taken on Thursday, it said. ‘Nevertheless, parents are requested to use their discretion,’ it said.
St Mary’s School has also decided to remain shut on Thursday considering the cyclonic conditions in the state.
Vikas Kakatkar, vice chairman, Deccan Education Society, said that the three pre-primary and primary schools of the society would be closed on Thursday. “These schools do not require permission of the school education department to remain shut. The attendance was less that 50 per cent on Wednesday. The secondary schools run by the society — New English Tilak Road and Ahilyadevi Girls’ High School — will be shut on Thursday on account of Kartiki Ekadashi,” he said.
