Still smarting from the fallout of the 2G spectrum sale scam case,DMK president M Karunanidhi subtly indicated that his party would prefer bringing the Prime Minister under the purview of the proposed Lokpal Bill,a proposal that is strongly opposed by many including notably the alliance leader Congress. Returning from Delhi where he had gone to meet his daughter and Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi,DMK member and former union minister A Raja and the managing director of Kalaignar TV Sharad Kumar at the Tihar jail,Karunanidhi pointed out that when in power in the state, his party included even the Chief Minister under the anti-corruption law. That is our stand on Lokpal, he said, adding that he was leaving the rest to the media to interpret. Senior DMK leader TR Baalu, who represented the party at the UPA meeting on the matter on Tuesday, had first come out with support for the demand to bring the Prime Minister under the provisions of the bill that has the politicians and civil activists pulling from opposite sides. However, even as he reiterated the party stand,Karunanidhi stressed that while his party supported movements against corruption,it cannot back those with ulterior motives.
