Ajmal Amir Kasab, the lone arrested terrorist from the 26/11 attack, frequently abuses guards at Arthur Road Jail with foul language, according to a complaint to the special court hearing the attack case.

Jail officials have complained that Kasab continues to grumble about the food he is served, asks for basmati rice and gets into arguments with guards when they tell him it is not possible to change the menu.

A jail source said Kasab has been misbehaving constantly over the last week. He said Kasab uses foul language consistently and begins an argument whenever the guards tell him to behave or not do something.

“The other day he scared the guards by having his blanket wrapped around his face while sleeping. The guards thought he was trying to suffocate himself, opened his cell door and tried to remove the blanket. Kasab was enraged at being woken up and kept shouting abuses at them for a long time,” the source said.

“On many occasions, Kasab has picked up fights over the quality of food served to him. He wants the food to be spicy which is not possible under the jail manual; every undertrial is served food as per government-prescribed, calories-per-day norms. He even demands basmati rice and when the guards try to explain that is not possible, he gets agitated,” sources said.

Jail superintendent Rajendra Dhamne confirmed that a complaint against Kasab’s behaviour had been sent to the court.

Kasab is jailed under high security. Commandos of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police along with jail guards keep a constant vigil on entry and exit points of the prison as well as the neighboring areas.
