Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate N N Shrimangale (left) comes out of the police headquarters after remanding Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist, for another two weeks in police custody, on Thursday. Due to security concerns, Kasab was not produced in court and the Magistrate and a public prosecutor were taken to the police lock-up, where he is lodged. This is the first time since the 1993 serial blasts that such an arrangement has been made. Then TADA judge J N Patel visited the Mahim Police Station where members of the Memon family and others arrested for the serial blasts were lodged.
LAWYER BACKS OUT: Dinesh Mota, the defence lawyer appointed by the Government, opted out on Thursday saying he could not “defend someone whom the entire world has seen butchering people”. However, Mota fears the refusal could cost him his job. Although he has represented the underworld earlier, he said that was a different matter.
