Kasab could be 22 years: Forensic expert

A forensic expert told a special court that the age of Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, the only surviving terrorist of the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai, could be 22 as his chest X-ray indicates developed growth.

The expert, Dr Sudhir Nanandkar, told the court that Kasab's chest X-ray shows a complete fusion of the clavicle (collar bone), indicating that he could be 22 years old.

Nanandkar, a witness in the sensational case who conducted the Ossification (bone) test on Kasab, said in medical jurisprudence the examination of clavicle fusion helped independently to determine the age of a person.

The court was examining Dr Nanandkar and two others as witness to determine the age of Kasab, which the accused claimed before the court was just 17.

On a plea from the prosecution, the judge M L Tahalyani had ordered an inquiry to determine whether the accused was a juvenile or not.

The testimony of the witness that Kasab's age was 22 supports the prosecution's case that he was not a juvenile. Two other witnesses --a doctor and the jail superintendent --deposed yesterday saying Kasab had told them he was 21.

During cross-examination by defense lawyer Abbas Kazmi, the witness said that while taking X-ray of Kasab in jail on April 27, there was malfunctioning of machine after the completion of the process. He also said that Kasab's signature was not obtained on the X-ray plates.

This oneBy: Sally Wright | 17-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward You don't execute him. That is what they all want and expect, the easy way out. You make them live long and remember, and send a message to terrorists that death is not a quick easy way out for them. Death is what they expect, so remove it from them. It will be painful keeping him, but it sends a message to the rest of them.

Toothpaste and newspaperBy: Ajit | 04-May-2009 Reply | Forward Now that his age has been proved to be more than the minimum required to be tried as an adult, we all know what his end is likely to be. So what if he wants toothpaste and a newspaper? Give them to him. We are a civilized country and should show this to everyone, even those who wage war against us.I'm not sure that allowing him to roam around outside is a very good idea. It would be a real coup for terrorists if they could either kill or rescue him while he is in prison. Keep him in solitary confinement with a suicide watch so he comes to trial and everyone sees the misguided emothion, belief, economics or logic that makes people like him kill dozens of others who have done nothing to him.In fact, once he is convicted, his punishment should be life in solitary with no chance of parole. Well meaning idiots should not have any opportunity to try and free him after a few years saying that he has been punished enough.
Kasab wants toothpaste, paper and perfume in jailBy: RAMESH | 02-May-2009 Reply | Forward Till Kasab's episode, Jail is a place where people are placed for punishment purposes. But it looks kasab will transform it into a heaven (more comfortable than outside life). Let us see how long we will support this.
