India's Ministry of External Affairs and YouTube have launched a global short film contest 'India is' where users across the globe are invited to make five-minute short films on their perspective of India and submit them in the next three months on the contest channel. For this initiative, YouTube has partnered with Anurag Kashyap who will make five short films for this contest.
Under three themes, 'India is incredible', 'India is unforgettable' and 'India is wherever they are,' Kashyap will make one short film while the other four will be directed by his team. This includes Shlok Sharma, whose Irrfan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui-starrer Haraamkhor is currently in post-production, Vasan Bala of Peddlars fame, Anubhuti Kashyap, associate director on Gangs Of Wasseypur and Neeraj Ghaywan, who assisted Kashyap on GOW. These films will be co-produced by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Anurag Kashyap Films Pvt. Ltd.
Kashyap says, "Short films are fast emerging as the favourite form of film-making for both film-makers and audience. In fact, I chose people like Shlok Sharma and Vasan Bala for my team after watching their short films. This is a great initiative and I am so happy that the ministry is associating with competition like that."
The director is also a part of the jury that includes an eminent panel of judges from the film industry. Interestingly, besides other prizes, the winner of this global contest will also get an opportunity to shoot a scene in Kashyap's next directorial venture. Apart from this five-minute short film, the film-maker is currently busy shooting for a thriller, Ugly and aims to wrap the shoot in January. Kashyap begins shooting Bombay Velvet, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma, in June.
