Chief accused in the disappearance and alleged murder case of Meerut University’s lecturer Kavita Rani — Ravindra Pradhan — was today sent to two more days in police remand by Judicial Magistrate VK Azad even as another accused Harendra Pradhan surrendered to the Civil Lines police here.
In another significant development, during his statutory presence before the magistrate, Ravindra proclaimed that he had changed his lawyers and that his new lawyers were Anil Kumar Bakshi and Salauddin.
The move is being seen as a fallout of yesterday’s controversy in some sections of the electronic media over the statement attributed to him that he had retracted his previous statement in the court.
Yesterday the police had failed to get the extension as the Investigating Officer failed to produce the case diary. The court then sent Ravindra to jail and fixed today’s hearing.
