Keep the troops thereBy: Abhinav Aima | 23-Jan-2009Reply | ForwardAs someone who has conducted research on the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon, and interviewed Indian officers posted there, I can attest to Mr. Mukherjee's arguments regarding the need for Indian forces to continue involvement in UN missions. Beyond the pay, goodwill and national image, another significant advantage of these missions is that it allows Indian forces to observe and learn from the various tactics utilized by foreign armed elements in such conflicts, which in itself is an immeasurable real-world learning environment that would be difficult to replicate for Indian troops outside of the UN mission.
