Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan on Wednesday dismissed opposition UDF's demand for his resignation following CPI-M's rout in the assembly by-elections, saying it was a "usual opposition response" on such occasions.
"This is the usual opposition demand. The response of the opposition need not be always constructive," he told reporters during his weekly briefing after the cabinet meeting.
On the defeat of the CPI(M)-led LDF in the by-elections, in which the UDF, headed by Congress, bagged all the three seats, he said the ruling alliance would go into what went wrong.
The CPI-M veteran defended his statement during the poll campaign that central forces deployed by the Election Commission should "confine themselves to their barracks".
"On many issues the Election Commission did not take into account what the state government had said. In this matter also, this is what happened", he said.
The Chief Minister said in elections nothing should happen that would scare or influence voters.
