A Team of police officers from Kerala arrived in Noida on Monday to investigate the death of Justine John Xavier, a first-year BTech student of Amity University who drowned in the campus swimming pool on September 3. The Kochi team reportedly visited the Noida district hospital and Amity University to record statements.

The family of the deceased was not satisfied with the report of the postmortem examination conducted at the Noida district hospital and opted for another postmortem in Kerala. They also reportedly filed a case against the university administration in Kerala, following which the Kerala police launched a probe.

Justine’s father, John Xavier, told Newsline that the second postmortem was conducted on September 22. “We are sure Justine was murdered. This report and other evidence strongly suggest that my son did not die a natural death,” Xavier senior alleged.

The investigation team from Kerala has got leads in the case that would be crucial in proving that my son was murdered, he added.

Justine’s father has also questioned the credibility of the district hospital’s postmortem procedures and its report. “I suspect that no postmortem was done on my son’s body,” said Xavier, who works as a warehouse manager in Saudi Arabia.

Xavier also came down heavily on the Amity University administration. “If my son was murdered, the university is more responsible for his death than the murderer, as they tried to shield the facts and save the murderer to salvage their reputation,” he alleged.

Savita Mehta, PRO, Amity University, meanwhile, said: “We are extending all help and cooperation to the team from Kerala. At the time of the tragedy, we had also helped the family in the transfer of the body back to Kerala.”
