A day after the District Collector ordered a probe into distribution of sarees to women by a prospective BJP candidate, sarees were again distributed allegedly on behalf of the same candidate at a function. On hearing the news,a group of CPI-M activists barged into the hall and disrupted the function, holding that the distribution of sarees was a violation of model code of conduct ahead of the April 13 Assembly polls. On Saturday,Udaya Bhasker,a BJP National council member and on the party's list of candidates, had distributed sarees at a function, stopped it and left the venue when mediapersons arrived at the scene. Collector K V Mohankumar had asked the Revenue Divisional Officer, who is the returning officer,to conduct an inquiry and file a report. The BJP state leadership also said it had no role in orgainising the function and there was no need for BJP to canvass votes by extending gifts like sarees to the public. Official sources said district authorities have ordered a probe into today's function.
