  • The world's first crocodile park dedicated to Australian wildlife enthusiast Steve Irwin, who met with a tragic end in a stingray attack last year, is coming up at the Neyyar Dam in Thiruvananthapuram district. Spread over an area of one hectare, the park will have 45 'mugger' crocodiles and a rare estuarine variety, which was spotted and rescued from a beach near Varkala last year, a wildlife official said. "Since the park will be a memorial to Steve Irwin, the entrance will have a concrete plaque showing the Australian conservationist holding a crocodile in his hand," A. Shanawas, Assistant Wildlife Warden, said. The park would also have an enclosure which will allow wildlife to thrive in its natural surroundings.
