The S V S High School, Khadki, which provided the launching pad for India's hockey hero Dhanraj Pillay, has scored cent per cent SSC result. This is the first time in 30 years that the school has soaked itself in SSC glory. It was in 1978 that the very first batch of the school had notched up 100 per cent result.

This year, Sandesh Vilas Mutha scored 86.92 per cent marks to emerge as the school topper while Swapnali Sanjay Patil secured 86.15 per cent marks. Komal Jagdish Gurav scored 85.84 per cent marks and Gunadurai Muthupriya got 82.61 per cent marks. Last year too, the school had notched up 98 per cent marks.

Set up in 1924, the school is the second oldest one after Alegaonkar school in Khadki. What makes this year’s performance of S V S high school creditable is the fact that only two schools in entire Khadki area have scored cent per cent result. The St Thomas high school located on other side of the Pune-Mumbai highway at Khadki is the other school which has scored 100 per cent result this year, like it has been done for past so many years.

Francis David, president of the school, said the S V S school, run by the South Indian Association, has been on the revival path for the past three-four years. “We have taken up several projects to ensure good results. Our efforts are paying rich dividends,” he said. Crediting the school’s success to the collective efforts of the teachers, David said, “School principal Arumugam Sahadevan, supervisor Sulochna B and their team of teachers have put in their best efforts in a bid to ensure the school's SSC success.” David said the school has put in a lot of infrastructure in place which is helping students emerge with flying colours in different spheres like academics and sports. The school’s revival started after Sahadevan's predecessors like Pagajam initiated a number of measures to put the school on an academic high. Last year, Pagajam retired as principal after a “splendid service” of nearly 40 years. David said the management is committed to ensuring the school’s success.
