Khaira demands special audit of discretionary grants released by SAD-BJP govt

Following the exposure of alleged gross embezzlement done by former SAD minister Sucha Singh Langah and others, while using their discretionary grants, a state Congress leader demanded a special audit of all discretionary grants released by the SAD-BJP government since 2007. He also threatened to move the Punjab and Haryana High Court, in case the government failed to accede to his demand.

Former Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira said the alleged scandal unearthed by an English daily was only the tip of an iceberg. "Scrutiny of discretionary grants issued by the SAD-BJP government will bring to fore embezzlement and misappropriation of the tax-payers money to the public domain. In the Langah case, how was it possible that the funds were given to a college that never existed? questioned Khaira. He added that the terms of reference of audit should include the expenditure incurred for disbursal of grants and usage certificates provided by the respective deputy commissioners of the state.

Kaira said, "As per reports, Rs 37 lakh had been allegedly procured by Langah from various discretionary quotas for Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College Society, Kalanaur, that never existed on ground".
