Khan not cooperating with probe, say police

A day after a local court extended Munir Khan’s custody, the police said they sought the extension because they needed more time to interrogate Khan as he refused to cooperate with the investigation. The police custody of self-proclaimed ‘miracle scientist’ Khan was extended till May 20.

Police Inspector Kalpana Gadekar of the Versova police station and the investigating officer said,“On Monday, when Khan was again produced before the court,I informed the magistrate that we needed his custody for some more time as he was not cooperating with our investigation. We still have to figure out his educational background and other details that only he can disclose.”

However,Gadekar refused to disclose the details of Khan’s statement to police. “We have not learnt anything new. He keeps giving vague replies to our questions and does not have documents or any other evidence to support his claims, like his Masters Degree in Economics from Oxford University in Kota or his scientific inventions in the field of medicine,” she said.

Another police official on the condition of anonymity said,“Khan is quite aged and has health problems. Therefore we cannot grill him harshly like other criminals and he takes advantage of the situation.”

Khan, who had been wanted by the Versova police since October last year for forgery and claiming his medicine ‘Body Revival’ can cure all diseases, finally surrendered on May 12. After being arrested,Khan was produced before the magistrate court and was remanded to police custody till May 17 which was further extended to May 20.
