Union Minister for Minority Affairs Salman Khurshid on Tuesday slammed the Gujarat government for depriving Central scholarships to students from minority communities.
He lamented that Gujarat was biased against students from minority communities. The Central government has a scheme of providing scholarships to minority students, provided the state government bears 25 per cent of the expenditure. Gujarat is the only state in the entire country which does not implement the scheme, he said, lamenting that the Central government has no powers to compel a state to implement a Central scheme.
I am not happy with the Gujarat government… development (in Gujarat) is taking place, but major development of Gujarat and Maharashtra had taken place during Congress regimes, Khurshid said. I am not happy with the social situation (in Gujarat). Ill be happy when the courts will be happy. The situation does not facilitate a neutral hearing of someones complaint.
Referring to the demand of releasing innocent Muslims arrested for Malegaon blast,he said,We are in touch with the Prime Minister,Home Minister and Soniaji on the issue.
