The last two months will remain etched forever in the memory of 12-year-old Prakash Singh. Separated from his loved ones, Prakash lived on the Mathura station and was forced to beg on the station and in trains.

He was kidnapped from outside his school and taken to Mathura. He was finally rescued from Jalandhar after relentless efforts by his father, Ramnath Singh, an auto-driver.

According to Prakash, he was kidnapped by four men from outside Sri Ram Model High School in Faridabad on July 21. They drugged him and took him to Mathura, where he was joined by four other children.

“We were kept under the supervision of one Shanker, a cobbler who lived on the platform,” said Prakash. “He would ask us to beg on the platform. Shanker set my school uniform and my books on fire and forced me to wear torn clothes. Since I had no clue of what needed to be done, he would often beat me when I failed to give results.”

To hide his identity, the kidnappers shaved off his head and tattooed the letter ‘R’ on his right forearm. Prakash is scarred all over and complains of loss of vision in the right eye due to torture. “Shanker would burn me and hit me on the head with an iron rod,” said the traumatised child. “To ensure we did not slip away at night, they would drug us. I was not given food on most nights since we were all were supposed to earn for him and get a share.”

IndianBy: Citizen | 22-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward Police should arrest any child who is bagging so they can be return to their parents and if they have no idea to whom they belong as this cruel people kidnapped this children at very young age, then they should be given to foster homes where they can get their childhood back. most of the children asking for money on the roads are either kidnapped child or forced by their relatives. no child should be allowed. this will stop the kidnapping as they could not get what they want. second death penalty for kidnappers without any excuse in public place.
Mera Bharat Mahan - 100 me se 99 baimanBy: Dee | 22-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward Shame on Indian people (all government employees) who take and give bribes to brighten the future of their kids and use child labor at home. Shame on leaders and police who can not kneel down these human traffickers.
children kiddnaped for beggingBy: Priti singh | 21-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward Thousands go missing everyday, and the law is ineffective.population is exploding, no one cares.Human life is so cheapanything goes. Poor innocent suffer the most. every second a child is killed, or molested, and some are raped for money.this is not shining India, we are 100 years behind in civilization and as long as we keep electing the currupt politician, I see no future for India.
ElectingBy: Padmanabhan | 22-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward Essentially you are right. But the requirement is for all citizens to vote for the best available candidate in each and every election, ignoring the party and caste considerations. Voters should keep away from ideology and vote for results and honesty only. If most Indians vote in that manner, the parties will be forced to put up good candidates, and remove criminals and corrupt people from their midst. Till then, wait... for generations.
AdvocateBy: B.S.Pai | 21-Sep-2009 Reply | Forward The commissioner of police should know that this is not the only incident giving rise to a serious case for him to look into. Every child on the street, on the railway platform, in the bus stand, on the roads, begging or soliciting arms is a potential serious case of juvenile kidnapping. He and his ilk should concentrate their energies on such cases rather than expend most of their enerrgies and time on guarding and protecting undeserving men women filled with anti national qualities and all the time doing criminal activities and getting protected by the police officials. Maybe they will only learn when one of theirs gets kidnapped.
