Killer chased Agra researcher around lab: Cops

After studying the initial post-mortem report of the 27-year-old researcher, whose body was found inside the campus laboratory of Dayalbagh Educational Institute in New Agra, police on Sunday said the psyche of the murderer was that of a "cold-blooded psycho killer".

Neha Sharma's body, the post-mortem report said, had 12 deep cuts on several parts. Police said the killer first used a paper cutter and inflicted deep cuts, which measured about 1 cm. The killer then switched to surgical blade, inflicting deeper cuts measuring about 3 cm.

"The paper cutter that the accused used broke, so he left that and picked up a surgical blade to continue his attack," police said.

Neha's body was found around 9 pm on Friday, after police found her abandoned car and contacted her father in Delhi through the details found on the registration papers of the vehicle.

The post-mortem report said Neha died of excessive bleeding.

"It appears the woman was running around (the lab) to escape, but the accused continued his brutal attack. There was blood spattered all over the lab, tables and chairs. The victim sustained cuts even on her thighs and legs," police said.

Police have not been able to zero-in on a suspect, but officials investigating the case said they have recovered a sketch of a girl from the lab. The sketch has cut marks drawn all over the face and hands. "The sketch indicates that the accused had planned the murder in advance. The sketch shows injury marks inflicted on the girl's image," a source said.

The body was found in a compartment inside the lab. Police also found an empty bottle of chloroform inside the lab.

According to police, after making sure that Neha was dead, the killer locked the lab from outside and fled in her car that was parked outside. The car was found abandoned around 1 km away from the university in Khelgaon — its headlights were on and the driver's seat reclined, police said. "It appears that the accused reclined the driver's seat to relax (after fleeing from the scene of murder). He appears to be a cold-blooded psycho killer," police said.
