There has been an eerie silence from the Maoist front on the eve of the first death anniversary of Kishenji, who was killed in an encounter with the security forces in Junglemahal on November 24, 2011.
The only bulletin issued by the Maoists in this regard was a month ago when they warned of "taking revenge" for the death of Kishenji, their military chief in the region, who they say was killed in a fake encounter.
"The cruel murder by the Centre in connivance with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee caused immense loss to the Indian revolutionary movement and will be retaliated," the bulletin read.
A week ago, the Centre had already issued a warning to the Maoist-affected states and asked them to be on alert on the anniversary of Kishenji's death.
In Junglemahal, where the Maoist presence has been greatly reduced, police say the outfit is trying to regroup with new inductions in leaderships as well as in strategy.
They say the silence could be a deliberate ploy by the Maoists.
