Congress leaders are again waiting in suspense for an organisational revamp in the Congress, which is a good barometer of the rising or falling stock of leaders at 10 Janpath. The fate of three heavyweights is at stake this time — Union Tourism Minister Ambika Soni, former J&K chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and former AICC general secretary Margaret Alva. Azad, who holds the distinction of being the only Congress general secretary to have held charge of all states and Union territories in the country, is eager to come back to the Centre after three years as CM. Former political secretary to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Soni is also said to be eager to come back to the organisation ahead of the general election. The comeback of either could shake up the existing power equations in the party. Alva, on the other hand, is awaiting rehabilitation barely a month after being asked to resign over her angry outbursts on the alleged sale of tickets in the party. While many of Alva’s colleagues discount the possibility of her rehabilitation so soon, what has attracted the attention of her colleagues are her recent meetings with Sonia.
