  • REWINDMODE

India played Australia in Kochi only once — on April 1,1998. India won that match by 41 runs. Batting first after winning the toss, India made 309/5 in their stipulated 50 overs. Mohammed Azharuddin (82), Ajay Jadeja (105 not out) and Hrishikesh Kanitkar (57) helped India to their second highest one-day score. Their best before this was 316/7 against Pakistan in the same year. In reply, Australia were cruising along nicely at 202/3 in the 32nd over. But Sachin Tendulkar, bowling a mixture of off-spin and seam-up deliveries, picked 5 for 32 to wrest the initiative from the visitors. Australia were bowled out for 268 in 45.5 overs. Michael Bevan (65) and Adam Gilchrist (61) were the notable scorers for Australia.
