Kochi Metro: Kerala to ask officer to explain letter
In the letter,Jose had raised doubts with DMRC about Sreedharans role.
Amidst Opposition allegation of attempts by politicians and bureaucrats to keep Metro Man E Sreedharan away from the proposed Kochi Metro project, the state Cabinet on Monday decided to seek explanation from IAS officer Tom Jose on his letter to DMRC chairman and Union Urban Development Secretary Sudhir Krishna.
In the letter,Jose had raised doubts with DMRC about Sreedharans role. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and his ministers have claimed they were not aware of the letter that was sent by Jose a month after he was removed from the post of managing director of Kerala Metro.
On Monday, Chandy reiterated his governments stand to hand over the project to DMRC with Sreedharan as its principal adviser. The IAS officers approach was against government policy. The state had intimated the Centre about its decision to have DMRC and Sreedharan in its project. The government will not tolerate any step to sabotage the project, he said.
Opposition leader V S Achuthananadan alleged that Jose had sent the letter with the tacit support of the Congress leadership and the CM. Why did Chandy allow Jose to hold discussions with other private foreign agencies in Singapore this year. One cannot believe that Jose held discussions with private firms without Chandys knowledge. It shows a deliberate attempt to delay the project and pocket kickbacks from bargaining with private firms. Jose is only a tool for the Congress in its manipulations, alleged VS. Last year,Opposition had alleged that Chandy had asked the Kochi Metro to open its account with Axis Bank, where the CMs relative was working as an assistant manager. Even while reiterating that the project was assigned to DMRC,the government had placed it before the recently concluded Emerging Kerala Investors Meet in a bid to scout partners, the Opposition alleged.
