Kodnani’s police custody extended till April 9

A local court extended police custody of former minister in the Modi Govt,Maya Kodnani,accused in 2002 Gujarat riot case,till April 9.

A local court extended police custody of former minister in the Narendra Modi Government,Maya Kodnani,accused in 2002 Gujarat riot case,till April 9.

Kodnani,who has already spent seven days in police custody in connection with the Naroda Gam case,was produced before Metropolitan Magistrate G C Gamit for seeking her remand in Naroda Patiya case where also she is an accused.

Today being a holiday she was produced in the court room located in the city crime branch office premises.

Public Prosecutor V P Atre submitted before the court that the nature of the offence in which Kodnani is accused was of serious nature and hence maximum remand should be granted for thorough interrogation.

Kodnani’s lawyer Rajkumar Choumal said that she has already been in police custody for seven days and has been interrogated by the Supreme Court appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Choumal requested that 2-3 days police custody could be given in the present case.

The court after hearing the arguments ordered that Kodnani be sent to police custody till April 9.

Kodnani and former VHP leader Jaideep Patel are accused of leading a mob which killed over 106 people and injured several others in Naroda area on February 28,2002.
