The Kolkata Police,it seems, has been hit by the blog bug.

To give a personal touch to its interaction with the citizenry,it is soon planning to launch a blog that promises to be an open forum where discussions can be held on various aspects, complaints can be lodged about the law and order in the city and suggestions given.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Goutam Mohan Chakrabarty said,“The blog is going to be launched soon… although we are yet to finalise a date.”

However, sources in the police said the blog is going to be launched before the pujas.

While the Kolkata Police already has an official website that provides all the required information and necessary numbers, sources at the police department said this would be a chance for the police to get closer to the public,at a personal level. The website also provides numbers of their helplines for distressed women, senior citizens, medical aid and traffic, but this is the first time that the police plan an interactive platform online.

Sources in the police said the CP himself is expected to be a part of the blog and he will interact with the public.

Joint CP Javed Shamim said: “One of the reasons why we decided to have this blog was that other states already have such a platform, where the police and the public can share the thoughts. So,we decided to start a similar interactive platform to make it easier for the public to connect with us.

One of the reasons for the launch of the blog before the Pujas is that the police can post handy tips for the citizens. Sources said it would provide people with a platform to voice their grievances or suggestion for the holiday season.
