After becoming the first Maharashtrian woman to conquer Mount Everest in May last year,Krushnaa Patil has scaled yet another peak, this time its Mount Kosciuszko, the tallest peak in the Australia mainland .

Krushnaa and her mother Ranjana Patil conquered the 2,228-meter tall peak at 1.30 am local time on Saturday.

“They went to Australia on March 11 and the actual expedition started on Saturday. This is a part of the seven summits that Krushnaa has undertaken. Having started with Mount Everest last year, she conquered three tallest peaks from various continents such as – Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa,Mount Vinson Massif in Antarctica and Mount Aconcagua in America before taking on this one,” said Madhav Patil,Krushnaa’s father, who was supposed to accompany the mother-daughter duo on the expedition but could not go because of professional commitments.

While the earlier summits were assisted ones with either a group of mountaineers or sherpas as in case of Mount Everest,Mount Kosciuszko was conquered by Krushnaa and her mother without any assistance.

“I am proud of the fact that they both managed the entire journey very well. The two did not practice at all before going on the summit. This is the first time Krushnaa is assisted by someone from the family on a summit. Earlier,we three had gone to Gomukh which is 5400 meter peak in India, together,” said Patil.

Expected to return to India by March 17,Patil said that Krushnaa is supposed to leave for two more summits that she’s planning to finish within two months.

“This is a shorter peak compared to the other seven and in fact Krushnaa plans to complete the remaining two peaks – Mount Elbrus in Europe and Mount Denali in North America within the next two months,” Patil added.
