Dera Bassi police, on Wednesday, arrested a labourer for raping and murdering a six-year-old girl on November 25. As per Dera Bassi SHO Gurdyal Singh, the father of the girl, Jagpal Singh — a UP native who works as a labour contractor — told police on Wednesday that he suspected one of his labourers.
"The labourers who work with him also reside in the same house. On Sunday, Shanker Chaudhary (a Bihar native) who had joined him just 10 days before, took their daughter Kajal to buy her peanuts," the SHO said.
During interrogation, Shankar accepted he had raped the girl when he was drunk and strangulated her.
The victim's body was recovered from a nearby jungle.
