A labourer lost his life at the construction site of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airports new terminal in the early hours of Thursday. This is the second incident this year of a labourer dying at an airport construction site.
Shamsher Singh,25,was working as a fitter with Ms Yongnam,a sub-contractor engaged in the roof work of Terminal 3 that is under construction. According to the police, material from the construction site fell on him around 1.30 am,killing him.
Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has requested Larsen and Toubro, the contractor for Terminal 3,to provide full support to the victims family. The incident has again raised the question of safety standards at the construction site. Prior to this,on January 9,three labourers had lost their lives when they were trapped during excavation work at the site.
