The Railway Ministry is set to cancel former minister Lalu Prasad Yadav’s order permitting former Railway ministers to avail of free AC First Class travel along with three companions apart from one attendant in AC second class. Lalu had rushed through the order, which amended the Railways Servants (Pass) Rules, increasing the facilities available to former Railway ministers under the complimentary card pass, on May 19, just two days after the Lok Sabha poll results came out.

BJP leader Ram Naik, who has also held the charge of Minister of Railways (Independent) in the past, has written to Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee drawing her attention to “blatant misuse of the minister’s authority” in getting that order passed.

Naik wrote of the impropriety of taking a decision “benefiting himself personally after the LS poll results is improper and unethical”.

“I have gone through Ram Naik’s letter and I agree with him. Increasing the number of people accompanying a former railway minister should not be there as it affects the common traveller,” Mamata responded when asked about the matter. However, when asked whether she would cancel the order, she just said, “Main apse sehmat hoon (I agree with you).”

“I respect Lalu ji,” she said on being questioned further.

Sources close to the Minister said the order would be cancelled in the next few days.

I support Lalu prasad as he has exposed lot of corruption in railwaysBy: jim | 13-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward Laluji has exposed the regular, deap corruption in Railways Its amazing that Raiways started making profits which was making regular loss from independance ! Defenitly many people will not like him. These personnel vendata should not be the cause to deny him the credit he deserves. In fact the regular passengers were paying for the railways to cover up losses incurred due to corruptions sowed by the business community in transporting their goods at a very low rates, under writting the weights, Cover in fake insurance claims, robbery, etc.

WAIT LISTERSBy: sonia | 12-Jun-2009 Reply | Forward Just last month I travelled by Shalimar-Trivandrum Express to Kerala. I was aghast by the scene inside Reserved Compartments like ours. A lot of Wait List passengers in Reserved Compartments. This is totally unfair. Many many years ago, when Laluji was not the Railway Minister, this never happened. But, now ! We all had sleepless nights for 2 days at a stretch. Wait List passengers lying all over the place at night, thereby no safety for the ladies travelling. I was finding a way to complain about this problem, which we all faced. Laluji has made a lot of profit for the Railways in this manner, i.e., by taking the full fare as for a Reserved Passenger and putting them on Wait List. A total harrasment for both the Wait List passengers and the Confirmed Passengers. This procedure should be stopped immediately. Hope Mamata Didi would be taking some positive steps regarding this.
