An arrest warrant was issued against RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav a day after he told a rally in Bihar’s Muslim-dominated Kishanganj that had he been Home Minister, he would have “run a roller” over BJP’s Varun Gandhi for his hate speech against Muslims.

Kishanganj SP Ramnarain Singh told reporters: “We examined the CD of Lalu Prasad’s speech and found it provocative.” An FIR was lodged against him at the Town police station under sections of the IPC and Representation of the People Act. Singh said a warrant was in place to arrest the RJD chief. The offence is bailable.

Meanwhile, Lalu Prasad today claimed he meant “kanoon ka roller (roller of the law)” in his speech. LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan came to his defence, calling it a “political speech”. “Laluji meant he would have taken strict action against Varun. He said it in other words. It is now up to the Election Commission to interpret it.”

But Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar slammed Lalu: “He wants political mileage by making such inflammatory statements. If somebody (Varun) said something wrong, the law of the land was there to take care of it. It was not the job of Lalu Prasad to make such a damaging public speech in a sensitive area like Kishanganj.”

While Bihar BJP leader Kiran Ghai demanded that the NSA be invoked against Lalu Prasad for “fomenting communal frenzy”, senior party leader Arun Jaitley demanded that the Prime Minister either remove him from the Union Cabinet or “own responsibility” for the statement against Gandhi.

Put him in JailBy: Denzil B Atkinson | 10-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward Thanks to the UPA leadership, the crafty Italian and the weak PM and the cronies, this Yadav is moving around freely. Book him under NSA; arrest him immediately. Varun addressed what may have been an Hindu gathering and hence found guilty. Laloo addressed a gathering consisting of maximum Muslims, hence the action should be the same. Do not differentiate. He has to be thrown out of the Ministry as we do not want pseudo secularists as Ministers.
Laloo the GoondaBy: P.H.Bhanage | 09-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward Laloo is a coward as he does not stand by his comments. He and Paswan now want to wriggle out by hoodwinking people that, what he in reality meant was the bulldozer of law.If it was so,Why did he say that he would have crushed Varun "without bothering for the consequences".If he was talking in pure legal term there was no reason for him to utter that. As, for legal action, nobody holds the Minister or the Judges responsible. I once again say that he is a coward hence wants now to give twist.Only person who stands by what he says, whether you like it or not, is Mr. Bal Thakare.Laloo, as it is a media creation(they have to take blame for propping up politicians like him)has his right place in jail only.Since his utterences condition of electronic media has become pathetic as they have to take cover of hide their faces by airing unimportant news repeatedly.By the way what is our 'strong' Prime Minister doing, we have not heard any statement from PM's office, not to talk of Navin Chawla.
Lalu must not get awayBy: Anil Kohli | 08-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward The speech by Lalu is far more serious a crime than what Varun Gandhi has been accused of.This is a direct challenge to the Judiciary, EC and the Law enforcement agencies.Lalu did this with complete knowledge and intention of inciting the people of Bihar to rioting. He has threatened to eliminate a young man. This is unpardonable why is Lalu still free and not where he belongs? Why has he not been arrested, is it because he is a Union Minister? What is the stand of the Union Government, why has he not been asked to step down from the Cabinet post?
Why no NSA for Lalu?By: Abrol Qayyam | 08-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward This is acrucial test for P.M. and Sonia. If they have any sense of justice , they must prvail upon Bihar government to book Lalu under NSA, otherwise nobody will have any respect for them
Lalu's "roller over Varun" remarkBy: Rahul Adlakha | 08-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward My fellow Indians: why are you complaining. It is you who voted Congress, Communists and Lalus, Mulayams and Mayawatis of this world into power, all supervised by Sonia Maino. You have got and will continue to get what you deserve... until such time you start to respect yourself.
