Lanco Infratech outbid other contenders like Videocon, Gammon, Apollo Enterprise among others to win the project, it said on Wednesday. The project was bid out by the government of Kerala in August 2007 through Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited (VISL) on a 33 years’ concessional basis. The project site is situated at Vizhinjam, about 16 km south of Thiruvananthapuram. It is proposed to be developed as a container transshipment hub and is planned to be developed in four phases with an ultimate capacity of 6.5 TEUs (Twenty foot Equivalent Unit).
