Despite the dispute pending over parcels of land acquired under the urban estate, Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) on Friday allotted 387 more plots in Sector 76-80 during the fourth draw of lots conducted at PUDA Bhawan in Sector 62.
Of the allotted plots, 135 were of 100 sq yards, 169 of 200 sq yards and 83 of 500 sq yards each, said GMADA Additional Chief Administrator Balwinder Singh Multani. The allottees included the letter of intent (LOI) holders and eligible oustees from the land, GMADA Estate Officer Pushpinder Singh Kailey said.
However, nearly 250 LOI holders and oustees as well as their co-sharers, who had moved the HC over various disputes over the acquired land, are yet to be allotted the plots. Accordingly, the eight-year-old wait of the allottees to get possession of the plots will continue till the litigation pending before the Punjab and Haryana High Court ends. Almost 180 plots of 100 sq yards, 66 of 200 sq yards each and 3 of 500 sq yards of the LOI holders and oustee petitioners, falling under the litigation area, have been kept reserved and would be allotted as and when the HC issues directions, GMADA officials said.
During the last three draws since 2007, GMADA had allotted 3580 of the total 3931 plots carved out in the urban estate. Of the total 4,446 plots, 980 fall under the litigation area.
Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority (PUDA) had acquired nearly 1,400 acres to develop the urban estate in Sector 76-80 in 2001. While the owners of over 1,200 acres had offered their landholdings after accepting the monetary compensation, owners of over 100 acres had challenged their land acquisition by rejecting the compensation, which they had termed meagre.
